Chung Chung (Q Q ) , Q D
first joined the Hong Kong entertainment industry when she was only 16 years of age.
Being very keen and good at singing chung chung entered the Sally Yip imitation contest in 1986 and won first prize. This marked the beginning of chung chung's entertainment career as Crown Records signed with her a contract that lasted for 8 years. However she did not give up her studies at that point yet, and throughout several years to follow, she combined her studies with her progressing career. Chung chung made her debut on screen when she costarred in a movie made in 1987 about high school kids coping with the life and love at school. She then made her first contribution with TVB productions when she played the female star in the 1988 TVB movie. What picked her up in her career path was when she was chosen to star in TVB's 20 episode series, "The Songbird" P qk costarring with Leon Lai. It happnened as it did when chung chung fell sick and was admitted to hospital and when the producer of the songbird went to visit her, he immediately saw the pitiful and sympathetic face in chung chung which reminded him of the main character in the songbird, hence decided to give her the leading role in the series. When the series was finally released, it attracted alot of public attention and curiosity as to who exactly this new actress with such great talent in singing and acting was. The series was well praised by the audience which led the producers into deciding to make another series of similar genre "Beside the Seaside, beside the Sea" W W E w
Surprisingly, as a new comer at that time, chung chung's soundtrack to the songbird got the best seller of the year (1989) selling more than 400,000 copies ( K ) .. However, the music industry refused to give the award to her because she was only a new person (really tells you how crap the HK music industry is sometimes!).
Following, this big TVB series hit, Chung chung began to gain recognition and popularity, and she subsequently starred in all her series that followed.
in 1994, her 8 year contract with Crown records finished and she then signed up with Star Records and released an album there. However, due to internal managerial problems, the record company was heading for its downfall and even failed to release cc's 2nd album which was signed in the contract. This had CC frustrated for a while as she was kind of stuck in her singing field for the time. Incidently, a well known past singer Lau Ka Cheung B a , and his popular past actress wife, had noticed cc for sometime and really admired cc's singing, acting and character. CC then came under their "care" for a while and released an album with his record company. Despite their claim that they will "care" for cc for sometime and that they should see cc picking up in her path, they later mediated the signing up of CC with her current managing agent, Florence Chan Suk Fan,
who is a very successful woman in this field and have achieved alot in the HK entertainment industry. In the light of this, CC should be well off with her (but the problem is that Florence has so many other singers to care for that one really wonders if she devotes enough time to each esp cc!). CC has now placed most (if not all) of the decision making concerning cc's accepting of movies/series, signing contracts etc with this lady. Under her new agent, cc signed up with her current record company, Rock Records, which should be more promising in terms of cc's singing career.
Being a very "TVB girl" since the time cc signed up with them back in her early career, she had devoted most of her time and talent with this omnipotent HK TV station. She has in a sense grew up with TVB and has become part of their big family from which cc derives sense of security and the fact that TVB had always treated her well (according to cc), she doesn't really pay much attention to any other influences outside of this company.
However, cc supposedly terminated her TVB continuous contract back in 1994-5 after her making of "Instinct" , whi ch brought her more public attention in that her talent and realism in character portrayals were praised upon. This marked the point where cc began to only sign series to series contracts in that she only signed up with TVB one series at a time. This gives cc more freedom in the sense that she can "explore the world" by virtue of the fact that she is now able to cooperate with other Tv stations like ATV , cable television stations, taiwanese tv stations etc. During her time with TVB, cc has acquired the title of being their "viewing rate guarantor" and her well accepted image as the tv couple with Dior Cheng Yi Kin.
